In this paper we investigated how the use of culturally congruent images, that is images that depict a client’s race, ethnicity, or culture, can improve adherence to the treatment plan. Through a review of existing literature, we found that inclusion of culturally reflective media in educational handouts leads to stronger identification with materials and better adherence.
