I expect my group to work together as a team throughout this semester in drafting and submitting our final paper. Working as a team means we have each other’s backs and are open to collaborating with one another throughout the coming weeks. We plan to hold each other accountable by doling out tasks equally to one another and setting clear expectations for the quality and timeline of our work. For example, this week we decided that we would stay in class until after we finished our initial draft of our PICOT question.
While we don’t intend for there to be any conflicts, if any arise, early communication and compromising will be key in order to resolve them. Everyone will need to feel like they are in a space where their ideas can be shared with others and listened to rather than just ignored. This will a responsibility we all have to each other as group members.
A possible barrier that I foresee is that out of the four of us, three of them live together while I live about 30 minutes away. I can see this being a barrier to us working face to face on days, especially if the weather isn’t ideal. I think we can counteract this issue by planning ahead to either plan ahead and use a day where we can all meet in person or have an alternate way to meet up together even if that means we use Zoom.
As a nurse, there will be days when the weather is bad or someone is sick and unable to come in. That doesn’t mean that we’re allowed to not do any work or ignore the people we work with. On days like that we’ll also need to plan ahead and figure out a way to continue working towards our goals as healthcare providers.
I think a benefit will be having a better understanding of how scientific research transitions into a more practical application in the clinical setting. Through this project we better understand the how to search existing literature to see how it can be used to improve patient outcomes. This is a skill that we might learn this semester, but can apply throughout our careers as nurses as science continues to advance and refine itself.
